Museum Replica Medals: Re-striking & Aging Handover

Museum medal replicas are usually struck from dies electroformed off the original; press force runs 80–90% of new production (e.g. 320–360 t instead of 400 t) to preserve the soft edges of the hand-struck era. Aging then hands over to the patina stage: two thin coats of 0.3–0.5 vol% K₂S, dark in recesses and polished on relief, sealed with microcrystalline wax. Edge-denting force must match the original, or the feel gives it away. ---
