In 1984–85 Hubei replicated the full 65-bell Zeng Hou Yi chime set, combining traditional clay molding with modern resin sand: bells were cast in matched half-molds with clay cores for shanked bells, using the original alloy window of 12.5–14.5% Sn and 1–3% Pb (too little lead sharpens the tone, too much deadens it). The two-tone effect comes from the almond-shaped section — front and side strike notes differ by about 218 cents. Tuning was done by grinding the inner walls, 5–8 strike-and-grind rounds per bell, landing within ±3 cents. ---
