Qalamzani, the Iranian art of metal chasing practised in the Isfahan bazaar, joined the UNESCO Representative List in 2016: the smith fixes a 0.8–1.5 mm red-copper tray on a pitch bowl and lines it from the front with a dozen family-forged punches; a tray of rose-window and vine patterns takes 40–60 h before silvering or gilding. Workshops pass father to son, while official craft schools in Tehran and Shiraz teach punch-making and pitch blending—rosin, plaster and tallow about 3:2:1, softened or stiffened for the season.
