Roman & Byzantine Coin-striking Revival

From Rome to Byzantium (4th–15th c.) coins were hand-struck: an annealed blank (700–800 °C) sits between an engraved anvil die and a hand-held punch, shaped in one or two blows; the 2–3 mm misalignment is a hallmark for authentic-looking replicas. Revival studios keep the tradition — reheat once the blank drops below 500 °C. Per the 1970 UNESCO convention, replicas must carry a COPY mark to be distinguished from antiquities. ---
