Gyokusendo (Tsubame-Sanjo, founded 1816) finishes its hammered copper in a traditional brush coloring: soot-smoking 10–15 min after forming, 3–4 dips in dilute sulfide (~0.5 vol%), then polishing only the raised peaks. Color locks into the hammer texture — dark in dents, bright on ridges. The techniques were designated a Traditional Craft by Japan's METI in 2013; the recipe is an unwritten family secret. ---
