Italian art foundries (Mariani, Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, and peers) run a century-old split: the sculptor shapes, the foundry casts. The sculptor delivers plaster or digital models and signs off the gating plan; the foundry handles molding, wax, ceramic shell, pouring and chasing, and the sculptor attends patina trials (usually 3–5 sample coupons). The trade association AISANACO links dozens of workshops under shared environmental and safety codes. Works over 2 m are cast in sections, welded with matching filler, and re-textured by hammer. ---
