Conservation Standards: Reversibility & Repair Patina

Conservation coloring follows minimal intervention, reversibility, and discernibility: repairs may remain distinguishable from the original, needing only visual harmony at distance. Reagents must be reversible — permanent dyes and aggressive formulas are banned. Standard practice is multiple thin coats of dilute potassium sulfide (0.5 vol%) sealed with natural wax, which solvents can remove. Follow ICOM-CC guidance and the China Principles, and archive the recipe, concentration, and coat count in the restoration record.
