鎏金/贴金完成后可薄涂一层虫胶或微晶蜡封护保光，但文物级作品常"不封而养"以保留金面呼吸。日常避免手直接触摸（手汗含氯硫化物使金面发暗）、勿用湿布擦拭，除尘用软毛刷或洗耳球。户外贴金需定期补蜡并避免酸雨长期侵蚀。
After gilding, a thin coat of shellac or microcrystalline wax seals and protects the luster, though museum-grade pieces are often left unsealed to "breathe." Avoid bare-hand touch (skin salts and sulfides dull gold), never wipe with a wet cloth—dust with a soft brush or blower. Outdoor leaf needs periodic waxing and protection from acid rain.
