蚀刻（etching）是用化学酸液或电解液选择性溶解金属形成凹纹；雕刻（engraving）是用刀具机械去除金属。前者靠"腐蚀"、后者靠"切削"，对线条风格与批量适应性不同。

Etching uses chemical acid or electrolytic solution to selectively dissolve metal into recesses; engraving mechanically cuts metal with a burin. One relies on corrosion, the other on cutting—they differ in line character and batch suitability. ---
