Grand feu dials for Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet build 4–6 white layers on 0.4–0.6 mm copper or gold blanks, each fired at 800–820℃, with yields of just 30–50%—a single micro-bubble or hairline scraps the piece. Dials of 30–40 mm hold flatness under 0.05 mm and hole positions to ±0.02 mm, corrected by diamond micro-grinding after firing. Roman numerals and tracks are hand-painted in black enamel and fired in one pass. The enamel-dial boom has revived specialist studios at 3,000–15,000 CHF per dial and renewed research into copper-body white grounds.
