A 4 m public sculpture mixing copper and stainless steel used "same color, different substance": copper dipped black in 1 vol% potassium sulfide, stainless electrolytically colored (200 g/L NaOH, 0.5 A/dm², 3–5 min) to a matching black, accepted at ΔL* < 3 between Lab readings. Mask the copper before electrolysis, leaving 2 mm each side of the seam for hand retouching; insulate the joint with primer and nylon washers to block galvanic corrosion — otherwise dark rust weep lines the weld within six months and stain the finished color.
