In Tamil Nadu the Vishwakarma goldsmith lineages have sunk hemispherical ritual vessels and lamps since the Chola era (9th–13th c.): copper-silver sheet is sunk stepwise through hand-carved stone cavities (about 12 grades, 5 mm depth step), lubricated with turmeric water, and a shallow-relief lamp bowl takes 3–5 days. Their oral "seven-ring hammering"—strike spacing under one-third of the face diameter—is the core skill of the local heritage listing. ---
